Jacob's birthday and baptism

How can I have a child that is eight?  I wish that becoming a parent meant that you knew what you were doing.  That you weren't learning with every child, especially the first.  Jacob has sure been the guinea pig.  Sometimes good, sometimes not so good for him.  He is such a good, sensitive, hard working, athletic boy.  We are incredibly lucky to have him and even more lucky that he was our first.

Jacob turned eight last month.  We prepared the kids that we were not doing birthday parties this year.  We've decided on every other year, but we did tell them they could invite friends over for cake and ice cream.  It's amazing to me how much fun the kids have without all of the headache of a huge party.  They ate, played, laughed and sighed when it was time to go home.   With money he received from his birthday along with his savings he was able to finally buy a Razor E150.  It's an electric scooter that he has been dying to have.

Turning eight is a big deal in the LDS church.  It's the age of accountability.  The earliest someone can choose to be baptized.  Jacob had been looking forward to his baptism for a long time.  Wayne's parents flew in for the big day.  They bought the boys suits and Lexi a beautiful dress. Wayne baptized and confirmed him.  Grandma Ormsby gave a talk on what it means to be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost.   The missionaries and four family friends came.  We had a plethora of treats to enjoy afterward.

Jacob, you are amazing.  Dad and I always talk about how smart you are.  What a great swimmer you are.  How meticulous you go about everything in your life.  We are so thankful that you want to be good and that you are concerned about others.  I remember when you watched a show with Dad and a Save The Children commerical came on TV.  You watched the entire thing, had tears streaming down your eyes and promptly told me that you had something important to do.  You said that you were going to go and find all of those kids that need homes and you were going to have them all come live with us.  We love you!!
